Is vaseline okay to put on tampons? please help quick!?

Hi, this is my first time putting in a tampon, and today is a pool party so I need help! I used vaseline on my tampon and it went right in! I told my mom and she got mad and said i'ts not good for you. But she said I can keep it in. (She's a confusing person) anyways is vaseline okay to put on your tampon? I don't have any KY jelly so that was my only other option! PLEASE HELP ME:)
